The Hudson Valley: A Cultural Guide

From 2007 through 2009, on a commission from the Alliance for the Arts in New York City, I wrote the text and shot the photographs for a guidebook to the Hudson Valley that emphasizes the many new places where one can experience contemporary art while also paying attention to the many other cultural attractions between New York City and the Adirondacks. Published during the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the river, the 288-page guide lists more than 500 places of interest including gardens, parks, sculpture parks, performing arts centers, historic houses, art museums, ecology centers, public buildings, music festivals, and local fairs. I saw my job in putting this book together as being to continue to document the sense of creative possibility that I had experienced in the region while working on Route 22. Published in 2009 by the Quantuck Lane Press, with support from Furthermore. Edited by Randall Bourscheidt. Design by Laura Lindgren. Maps by Myra Klockenbrink.
